Congratulations to Susie Lighty on her well-deserved recognition!

Quoted from the award presentation: “Susie has proactively kept the Division of Public Safety apprised of changes that may affect emergency notification and response activities within Materials Research Laboratory and the buildings they occupy. Since 2013, Susie has made it a priority to collaborate with our Office on the creation and annual review of Building Emergency Action Plans (BEAPs) on behalf of her College of Engineering colleagues and students.  Susie worked tirelessly to integrate the parameters of our training mandates with the available technology on campus to create one of the first Compass 2g online tracking systems specifically for Building Emergency Action Plan.  The federal requirements to track employee training was, historically, performed manually, severely limiting the Emergency Management Training Coordinator’s efficiency and time management expectation. Susie’s forward-thinking initiative has opened up technology Emergency Management did not know was available to us on campus.

“Susie Lighty has not only been a strong ally for Materials Research Laboratory, she has been a true asset for the Office of Campus Emergency Management. Susie’s positive attitude, her ability to coordinate effectively with others outside her department, and her distinguished work ethic has made her a tremendous example for others to follow. Susie’s ability to collaborate with the Office of Campus Emergency Management is a perfect illustration of why the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is better prepared to serve our faculty, staff and students during unimaginable emergencies.

Susie’s dedication to her department and colleagues, accompanied by her willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done is sincerely appreciated.  The campus should be proud to have someone of Susie Lighty’s stature representing its fundamental values and core mission, which is service to our community.”

Each year, the Office of Campus Emergency Management honors the outstanding contributions of the Division of Public Safety or campus community member who has made significant contributions to the emergency management efforts of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
